A TINY TIMELINE
The project team had four months to design, curate sponsored materials, mock-up and build. The lighting designer worked closely with the interior designer to select specific materials, finishes and complementary lighting to create a spacious and open concept for a home with a small footprint.
COMPACT LED SOLUTIONS
Integrated BL Flexform D2 3000K LED tape light continues from the living space to the bedroom, and casts a glow of ambient light enhancing the height of the tiny home, further visually heightened with the creative choice of mirroring to reflect and expand the scale of light and space.
Bl Flexform D2 3000K LED tape light beautifully back lights the tempered gray mirror feature, giving the space a comfortable, luxurious feel. The custom engineered stone shower walls were crafted in reflective white, to further enhance the natural and integrated lighting and complete the modern, clean look, visually extending the compact home.
ENERGY-EFFICIENT MINIMALIST HOME DESIGN
All the LED luminaires combined create an interior load of an efficient 0.64 watts per sq ft., and control of maximum light levels saves even more energy. The comprehensive residential technology system houses all drivers in one location for ease of maintenance. Lighting control is user friendly, with accurate dimming to 1% of all lighting. Control of lighting scenes and motorized solar shades is centralized, and is neatly managed at the touch of a wall-mounted panel, or mobile device. The homeowner can easily set the lights to suit any mood, from a bright and focused space to work and play, to a welcome and calm ambiance to the tone for a relaxing evening at home.
Through a charitable collaboration called “The Art of Living Small’, this custom 516 sq. ft. Laneway Home was installed at the 2013 Interior Design Show West, Western Canada’s annual premiere residential design show. The tiny home was auctioned off at the show, and net proceeds of the sale of the home (over $67,000) went towards the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
