BL Lighting was consulted upon to provide a unique solution to illuminate a custom step application, in the new OFF-WHITE retail location. The store is nestled into a block that is home to some of the world’s most prestigious brands, the main entrance is strategically placed off the beaten path down a dark laneway, mere steps away from Vancouver’s notoriously nefarious Downtown Eastside. With nearly 4300 square feet spanning over two floors, this flagship store is noteworthy as one of the chains largest, and targets the local and insatiable appetite for high-end luxury goods.

MODERN, RECTILINEAR DESIGN
The contemporary design theme of the Off-White store is accentuated with a focal point custom concrete cast stair, connecting the upper floor seamlessly with the ground level. BL Flexform D2 3000K was specified to implement a beautiful, homogenous ‘off-white’ 3000K light, in conjunction with the BL Fixform R2626 LED profile, which is treadable with a high load bearing capability of 4500 lbs (20 kN) and optic lens for glare-free and uniform diffusion in direct view, for the right amount of light, in the right place for the unique recessed application at hand.
The lighting is perfectly flush mounted and embedded directly into the concrete. Radiant illumination edges the staircase from the ground up along the risers, across the treads, and follows the perimeter of the landing at the mid-point, before continuing up through to the second floor. Working closely with the installers, BL Lighting supplied BL Fixform R2626 in 6ft (1.83m) field cuttable lengths, allowing the on-site team to layout exact dimensions, and create the carefully mitered corners required to fit the custom cast concrete. Cuttable in just 2” increments, all lengths of BL Flexform D2 were shipped to site pre-assembled and custom cut to meet the precise sizes required, saving time and labor costs on the project.
At up to 240 lumens per foot, BL Flexform D2 provided all the light needed to create a vibrant contrast against the dark gray cast concrete. BL driveLINE MG dimmable drivers assured easy dimming and control of light levels, further simplifying the installation with integrated junction boxes in this interior application. The flawless execution of manufacture, design, and installation resulted in an eye-catching and modern finish.
STRIKING ILLUMINATION ENHANCES UPSCALE MODERNITY & SOPHISTICATION
Luxuriously constructed, the custom staircase is transformed into a rectilinear patterned luminous surface with the integration of BL Lighting’s tailor-made and efficient LED lighting solutions. The elevation takes shape visually, the linear accent lights create a dramatic threshold and pull clients along with a strong sense of directional movement, providing a metaphorical bridge between the worlds of streetwear and high fashion. Contemporary styling is key, with contrasting elements and colors found in the physical store design in alignment with the strong branding of bold lines found in Off-White’s logo, coming together to enhance this upscale, modern, and sophisticated international haute-streetwear retailer.
MINIMALIST EXCLUSIVITY
The creative vision was modeled after their other locations, featuring the same edgy design concepts the Off-White brand is recognized for globally. The composition is in tune with the minimalist, chic, and rich designs of the high fashion label and perfectly captures the essence of youth brand, adjacent to streetwear. Aligning with this conception, BL Lighting’s linear LED lighting emphasizes the contrast of bright light emerging from the dark concrete, just as the location of the entrance off the seedy alley is juxtaposed against the boutiques locale within the tony Carlyle building, carving out a retail space that is at once stark and industrial, yet luxurious and exclusive.
