IF YOU CAN DREAM IT
The helix is a symbol of evolution, growth, and resilience, standing the tests of time and influence with strength and stability. When BL Lighting was approached by the design team to fabricate a custom chandelier that incorporated a double helix at its heart, we jumped at the opportunity to bring their unique project to light with BL Fiberoptic, known to share many of the same properties as the resilient helix.
WE CAN DO IT
BL Lighting worked closely with the team to clearly understand and identify what they envisioned. Our careful consultations, supported by our custom 3D renderings and layout drawings, showed just exactly how we would craft a bespoke design to meet the clients’ vision of an active, eye-catching luminaire. Once finalized, we quickly proceeded with production, while working hand in hand with the on site installation team to ensure all fixture components would go together without a hitch.
LET’S GET TO IT
The outer circle is comprised of over 2000 ft of BL Fiberoptic SL 120 (⌀ 1/8” – 3mm) Side Light Fiber Optics of varying lengths, emitting a 360° soft ephemeral glow along each cable, the bottom third of the outermost strands purposefully twisting and bending outwards, whimsically encircling the chandelier. The double helix heart of the luminaire is framed by the ring of lights in the outer circle. The twisting inner three-dimensional spiral curve incorporates over 3000 ft of BL Fiberoptic SL 150 (⌀ 5/32” – 4mm) Side Light Fiber Optic Cables, each drop tipped with over 100 BL Fiberoptic EF CH200 Optical Fiber End Light Fixtures in the form of crystals, which makes the double helix shape really pop.
The chandelier is lit with three energy efficient 46 Watt BL Fibersource Aries RGBW DMX addressable illuminators. Choosing colors and programs is simple, BL Controls Cato touch screen + App. is used for its functionality and intuitive wall mounted, touch-sensitive glass display, giving the homeowner complete control with the touch of a button. Color changing effects inject a pulse into the heart of the fixture, creating a sense of movement that brings the luminaire to life.
BL Lighting designed a 3’x3′ custom template, making it easy to plot each individual Optical Fiber to a designated mounting point during installation. This was a critical component to the overall design success, as the pattern needed to be precisely matched to create the desired double helix in such a way that it would be clearly visible through the outer ring of light.
WHAT’S YOUR VISION?
The installation was completed and perfectly fit the space; all were tickled pink to see the sparkle emanating from the crystals in a rainbow of dramatic effects. The chandelier turned out precisely as imagined, the conceptual renderings matching the in real life results exactly.
The end result is extremely sophisticated and elegant, the luminaire is one of the composing elements of the architectural space, and it’s absolutely a show stopper which the client will enjoy for many years into the future.
