BL Lighting Illuminates the New PNE Amphitheatre: Innovation and Sustainability in Architectural Lighting
The BL Lighting team is proud to be part of the transformation of the PNE Amphitheatre in Vancouver, Canada. This ambitious project is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable open-air venues in North America, with a seating capacity of up to 10,000 spectators and an innovative design featuring one of the longest clear-span mass-timber roofs in the world. As a key lighting solutions provider, BL Lighting plays a pivotal role in enhancing the architectural beauty of this iconic venue while ensuring energy efficiency and sustainability. With a capital budget of $103.7 million, the PNE Amphitheatre is positioned to be a landmark that will redefine large-scale entertainment spaces.

About the PNE Amphitheatre
Designed by Vancouver’s Revery Architecture, the new PNE Amphitheatre is a cutting-edge, open-air venue that will host concerts, cultural events, and large-scale performances. The construction, which began in 2024, is scheduled for completion in 2026. The amphitheatre will feature:
• A seating capacity of 10,000 spectators makes it a premier entertainment hub in the region.
• One of the longest clear-span mass-timber roofs in the world, a marvel of modern engineering and design.
• Noise-mitigation features that help minimize disruption for the surrounding neighborhood during events.
• The thoughtful use of wood pays tribute to the province’s Indigenous ancestors and reflects the region’s commitment to sustainability.
• Sustainability at its core, with certifications such as LEED Gold, Salmon Safe, and Rick Hansen Gold for accessibility.
• Breathtaking views of Vancouver’s North Shore mountains provide an unparalleled setting for events.

BL Lighting plays a pivotal role in realizing the vision of the PNE Amphitheatre, providing high-performance LED solutions with IP68-rated, waterproof luminaires that are built to withstand Vancouver’s temperate rainforest climate. Our BL Neonview LED linear lighting system was meticulously crafted to blend harmoniously with the wooden structure, tracing its flowing, organic curves with precision. Nearly 10,000 feet of Neonview follow the amphitheater’s sinuous geometry, with custom long run lengths designed to accentuate the intersecting planes of the structure. This seamless integration illuminates the mass timber arch, casting vibrant, uninterrupted light that enhances architectural beauty and evokes a sense of dynamic movement throughout the space.
Our contributions include:
• Architectural lighting systems designed to enhance the wooden structure’s natural beauty while ensuring longevity in outdoor conditions.
• Energy-efficient LED technology that minimizes power consumption while delivering high-lumen output and precise color accuracy.
• IP68 rating and cable ferrule to block water ingress, combined with weather-resistant fixtures that perform consistently in temperatures ranging from -40° to 113°F (-40° to 45°C), ensuring durability year-round.
• 3G Vibration Rating, tested and approved by a third-party lab. The Neonview solid silicone design absorbs impact and motion vibrations effectively, ensuring no internal damage even under the intense acoustic energy and sound waves in concert venues.
• UV Protection Coating with UL Certified F1 Rating and a self-cleaning lens with a dust-repelling surface, preventing silicone yellowing and maintaining performance. This combination reduces maintenance by preventing buildup that could obstruct light output.
• IK10 Impact Resistance, ensuring that the lights are highly resistant to damage from impacts, such as those caused by objects or birds.
• 24/7 Operation thanks to robust LED PCB construction with an added 8oz copper belt for excellent heat dissipation during extended use.
• Uniform and Seamless RGBW LED Neon with dot-free illumination and smooth color transitions, following curves and contours with a flexible, square-shaped silicone diffuser. Bright Side H RGBW delivers over 153 lm/ft with a wide-profile lens and 120° beam distribution, ensuring vibrant, continuous lighting across the structure.
BL Lighting is committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable lighting technology. Our work at the PNE Amphitheatre highlights key innovations, such as:
• Energy-efficient LED solutions lower power consumption while providing superior brightness and color accuracy.
• Durable, weather-resistant fixtures designed to withstand the amphitheater’s open-air environment while maintaining peak performance.
We are proud to be part of the PNE Amphitheatre project, underscoring our dedication to delivering innovative and sustainable architectural lighting solutions. Our expertise continues to illuminate world-class venues, creating unforgettable experiences for audiences worldwide.
